TO OUR INTERESTED COLLABORATORS:
CAB was founded in 2018. The organization is currently led by co-Artistic Directors Desean K. Terry and Keiana Richàrd. We launched with a project called American Saga, a series of readings and events that presented new work by innovative writers and artists of color, committed to telling the unheard stories of American life by America's unheard voices. This culminated in our critically acclaimed productions of Zola Dee's Gunshot Medley: Part 1 in 2018 and 2019, co-produced with Rogue Machine Theatre and The Watts Village Theater Co. We continued to produce staged readings; a workshop production of Zora Howard's Stew, which went on to be a finalist for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize in Drama; an online docuseries, The Covid Effect (co-produced with Outside In Theatre); and outreach events and educational workshops. We weathered the pandemic years with perseverance and agility, and achieved landmark goals in fundraising through competitive public and private foundation grants, as well as individual donations. Lines in the Dust marks our return to the stage with our first live theatrical production since 2019.
We are at a crucial juncture in our growth as a young organization, as we continue to build our capacity for organizational and artistic development. We hope you will join us to learn more about our work, and how you can be a part of our collaboration.
We invite you to experience our production of Nikkole Salter's Lines in the Dust at a special hosted performance on Sunday, December 3 at 2:00pm. We're excited to welcome our community of friends, supporters, and colleagues from the performing arts world to the Matrix Theatre. Following the show, we hope you'll stay with us for a conversation with CAB company members about the play, our production model and partnerships, and CAB's collaborative, community-driven approach to producing innovative, urgent theater.
